Momos :

Without any doubt Momo’s is the best considered dish amongs all dishes in Ladakh region. Now this dish has become so popular that everyone knows it’s a Ladakhi dish and many of us have tried also but this is mandatory dish to have while visiting Ladakh.

It’s a steamed dish by dumplings of plain flour steamed with onion, carrot, cabbage and garlic. Generally, it is served with red spicy chutney.

 

Thukpa :

Thukpa is a origin dish of Tibetians but later major of the north region has adopted it as a routine. It is basically a vegetable soup of carrot, cabbage, mashroom, onion, garlic, tomatos, capsicum and noodles as a cherry on top. People also can add red chill chutney as per choices.

 

Khambhir :

Khambir is a very famous and one of the popular dishes in Ladakh region. Basically it is a bread of 3 inched made by wheat, yeast and flour. People used to have butter or tea along with the khambir bread.

 

Skyu :

Skyu is delectable dish and specially you will get it in Ladakh. It is comprises handmade pastas, veggies in a simmered soup.

 

Chutagi :

Chutagi is a dish like a pasta and Ladakhi has its own recipe to make it more tasty. Chutagi is a delightful dish that consists of bow-tie-shaped dough pieces cooked in a rich and hearty soup made with potatoes, carrots, peas, and local leafy green vegetables. It is a delicious and nutritious culinary specialty from Ladakh that is sure to please the palate!

 

Tingmo :

Tingmo is a steamed bread that is eaten with the dal (or Meat for the non-vegeterians). Tingmo is a soft and steamed bread made from plain flour and no filling is required in it. For the best taste it is to be eaten while it is steamed hot. Tingmo is a dish of all the time such as breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also it is a favourite tea time snack too for the locals.

 

Butter Tea (Namkin Tea):

Butter tea in Ladakh is a traditional and welcome drink with huge advantages in body. It is made from Yak butter and salt with the tea leaves in boiled water. This is very beneficial especially in winters and at high altitude. butter keeps your lips moisturized and water keeps your body hydrate. So you can considered this as a replacement of Lip balm.

 

Chang :

Chang is not any dish but it is a local beer made with barely and having roughly 4% to 6% of alcohol. Chang beer is used to take place every occasion of Ladakhi such as born, marriage, getting job or improvement in work position etc… Local people do not miss any chance to celebrate any occasion without having chang.
